Hummingbird Pictures And Facts

Hummingbirds are birds that comprise the family Trochilidae. They are among the smallest of birds, most species measuring in the 7.5–13 cm (3–5 in) range. Indeed, the smallest extant bird species is a hummingbird, the 5-cm Bee Hummingbird. They can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 12–80 times per second (depending on the species). To conserve energy while they sleep or when food is scarce, they have the ability to go into a hibernation-like state (torpor) where their metabolic rate is slowed to 1/15th of its normal rate. They are also the only group of birds able to fly backwards. Here are some interesting hummingbird pictures, facts and general information about hummingbirds.

A hummingbird’s beak is generally shaped like any other bird beak, just longer in proportion to its body.
The edges of the hummingbird’s top beak will overlap the edges of the hummingbird’s bottom beak.
A hummingbird’s bottom beak is slightly flexible.
Hummingbirds do not drink though their beaks like a straw. They lap up nectar with their tongues.
A hummingbird’s heart beats up to 1,260 times per minute.
A Hummingbird’s heart beats about 250 times per minute at rest.
A hummingbird’s heart is 2.5% of the total body weight.
A hummingbird will take about 250 breaths per minute while at rest.
A hummingbird’s metabolism is roughly 100 times that of an elephant.
Hummingbirds have very weak feet and can barely walk. They prefer to fly.

Hawaii Pictures

Hawaii is the 50th state of the United States of America. Situated nearly at the center of the north Pacific Ocean, Hawaii marks the northeast corner of Polynesia. While it was once a major hub for the whaling, sugar and pineapple industries, it is now economically dependent on tourism and the U.S. military. The natural beauty of the islands continues to be one of Hawaii’s greatest assets. Honolulu is the state’s capital, largest city, and cultural hub. Hawaiian and English are the official languages of Hawaii. Here are some beautiful pictures of Hawaii…..

Hawaii, almost always called the Big Island to avoid confusion – is the largest of the islands and home to Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa (the largest and one of the most active volcanoes on Earth)

Hawaii

Hawaii has many colorful ways of life. Some of these customs come from Pacific Islanders called Polynesians, who were the original settlers of Hawaii. Many of the people of Hawaii are of Polynesian descent. The people’s great friendliness toward tourists gives Hawaii its nickname of the Aloha State – Aloha means love in the Hawaiian Language.

Hawaii is made up of seven main islands, stretching from the majestic Big Island of Hawaii to the garden isle of Kauai. Waterfalls abound on each of the islands, as well as other beautiful sites. The entire chain of islands was formed by a single hot spot in the earth’s crust, which is currently busy building a new island off the coast of the Big Island.

Hawaii is the birthplace of big wave surfing. In the 1950’s surfers began to ride the powerful winter waves of Makaha on Oahu’s west shore and Waimea Bay on the North Shore. Big wave season in Hawaii happens roughly between November and February on Hawaii’s north shores. Some of the best surfing competitions in the world are held on Oahu’s North Shore in November and December including the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing (the Super Bowl of surfing). If you’re planning to watch the pros in action, get to the North Shore early because traffic can be heavy.

Colorful Coral Reef

Coral reefs are underwater structures made from calcium carbonate secreted by corals. Coral reefs are colonies of tiny living animals found in marine waters that contain few nutrients. Most coral reefs are built from stony corals, which in turn consist of polyps that cluster in groups. The polyps are like tiny sea anemones, to which they are closely related. Unlike sea anemones, coral polyps secrete hard carbonate exoskeletons which support and protect their bodies. Reefs grow best in warm, shallow, clear, sunny and agitated waters (wikipedia). Here are colorful color reef images……

Often called “rainforests of the sea”, coral reefs form some of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. They occupy less than 0.1% of the world’s ocean surface, about half the area of France, yet they provide a home for 25% of all marine species, including fish, mollusks, worms, crustaceans, echinoderms, sponges, tunicates and other cnidarians. Paradoxically, coral reefs flourish even though they are surrounded by ocean waters that provide few nutrients. They are most commonly found at shallow depths in tropical waters, but deep water and cold water corals also exist on smaller scales in other areas.

North Pole – WallPapers

The northernmost point on the earth’s surface is the geographic North Pole, also known as true north. It’s located at 90° North latitude and all lines of longitude converge at the pole. The earth’s axis connects the north and south poles, as its the line around which the earth rotates.
The North Pole is about 450 miles (725 km) north of Greenland in the middle of the Arctic Ocean – the sea there has a depth of 13,410 feet (4087 meters). Most of the time, sea ice covers the North Pole but recently, water has been sighted at the exact location of the pole. I have collected some North Pole wallpapers for you all……

If you’re standing at the North Pole, all points are south of you (east and west have no bearing). Since the earth’s rotation takes place once every 24 hours, if you’re at the North Pole your speed of rotation is quite slow at almost no speed at all, compared to the speed at the equator at about 1,038 miles per hour.

The lines of longitude that establish our time zones are so close at the North Pole, the Arctic region uses UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) when local time is necessary at the North Pole. The North Pole experiences six months of daylight and six months of darkness.

Robert Peary, his partner Matthew Henson, and four Inuit are generally credited with being the first to reach the North Pole on April 9, 1909 many suspect that they missed the pole by a few miles. In 1958, the United States nuclear submarine Nautilus was the first vessel to cross the North Pole. Other attempts to reach the North Pole have been quite interesting. Today, dozens of planes fly over the North Pole using great circle routes between continents.

Nuclear Explosion – Wallpapers

A nuclear explosion occurs as a result of the rapid release of energy from an intentionally high-speed nuclear reaction. The driving reaction may be nuclear fission, nuclear fusion or a multistage cascading combination of the two, though to date all fusion based weapons have used a fission device to initiate fusion, and a pure fusion weapon remains a hypothetical device.
Atmospheric nuclear explosions are associated with mushroom clouds, although mushroom clouds can occur with large chemical explosions, and it is possible to have an air-burst nuclear explosion without these clouds. Nuclear explosions produce radiation and radioactive debris (Wikipedia). Some of Nuclear Explosion Wallpapers are as follow:

Cheetah – Fastest Land Animal

Cheetah is included as mammal which lives on the savanna as well as dry terrain. You may find this animal if you visit Africa or even Asia. Acinonyx Jubatus is the other name for cheetah. The cheetah achieves by far the fastest land speed of any living animal—between 112 and 120 km/h (70 and 75 mph) in short bursts covering distances up to 500 m (1,600 ft), and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to over 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds. Let’s see the Cheetah pictures and facts below.

On the first aspect of the cheetah facts, let’s talk about the cheetah lung. The lung of the cheetah is so powerful. It can take the oxygen 150 times/ minute. The high level of oxygen is needed when cheetah runs.

Cheetah is a special animal which has particular drinking habit. There are three sources gained by cheetah when he wants to drink. He will take the drink from the blood of the prey, the water from the river or pool as well as from the moisture on the air by using the nostril.

Some of you probably think that cheetah will roar just like lion, but all of you are totally wrong. Cheetah doesn’t roar but it purrs. Such sound production is used to converse with others. The long tail of this family of cat is used to handle the speed.

The size of cheetah is various. On average, the length lies between 3.5 up to 4.5 feet. That measurement is without measuring the tail. The weight of the male cheetah is counted at 75 up to 150 pounds.

The next cheetah facts that you need to know lies from the prehistoric time. During the Egyptian era, Akbar raised many cheetahs as pets. The food that he got sometimes was from the captivated prisoner.

Cheetah is animal devoted to live in dry land. If you see the cubs of cheetah, you may view their grayed fur. When the cubs have grown up, such fur will fade away. The cheetah spot is available all over the body, but you will never see such spot located in the belly.

The female cheetah plays crucial role to breed. Unlike the human, who needs nine months to give birth, cheetah female needs longer time at least 2 years. This female cheetah can bread more than 3 cubs by mating with more than one male.

Let’s see the last aspect of the cheetah facts by talking about the cheetah senses. It is no doubt that the sense of the hearing and smelling of a cheetah is so high and powerful. Moreover, the eyes are so sharp that people like us will never be able to compare them.
